The Examination Division is accountable to manage the Special Examination effectively, efficiently and systematically to achieve a level of quality that would fulfill the appointment’s requirements to the Public Service as set in the related Schemes of Services.
CLIENT’s CHARTER
Our commitment is to manage the Special Entry Examination into Public Services effectively, efficiently and systematically. We promise to release examination results within 8 weeks from the date candidates register to sit for examination.
ORGANISATION CHART
The numbers of posts at the Examination Division as shown in the Organisation Chart is 20 personnel. The division is led by a Grade 2 Examination Officer (Open) and assisted by 4 Grade 3 Examination Officers (Open), 2 Grade N6 Assistant Administrative Officer and 13 other personnel. At present, only 15 of the posts are filled.
SPECIAL EXAMINATION
There are 21 posts that requires the candidates to succeed a Special Exam according to the Scheme of Service before eligible to be called for an interview. The types of examination involves Talent Test, Aptitude Test, Rapid Test, Physical Test and Psychological Test.
o Only when there is an application from Ministries or Departments to fill up vacancies would the examination be carried out. Only candidates that succeed the test be called for interview before being appointed. Talent Test, Aptitude Test and Rapid Test has a validity period of two years but Psychological Test is only for one year. Candidates that failed interviews can skip sitting in for the examination for as many future applications until the validity date expiries. For posts that require Physical Test, the test will be conducted on the same day as the interview. There is no validity period for such test.
TYPES OF EXAMINATION
Talent Test
Tests are used to select candidates for certain posts that involve knowledge and skills that can only be obtained through specific or on-the-job-training. For posts that require the individuals to undergo training before executing their tasks properly, Talent Test evaluates the candidates’ ability to learn such skills as well as identify the behaviour required. The tests are designed to identify the suitability of a candidate to hold such post. The test therefore predicts valid working performance. The posts that requires candidates to sit for the Talent Tests are Cultural Officer (Grade B41 and B27), Programme Producer (Grade B41 and B27), Designers (Grade B41 and B27) and Photographer (Grade B27)

Aptitude Test
Aptitude Test is an effective instrument to predict the work performance of candidates. The test is extremely beneficial to evaluate the candidates’ ability and efficiency to learn especially in obtaining knowledge relevant to occupation. The test measures Aptitude – aptitude such as the ability to solve problems using logic, data interpretation and mathematical concepts, tests the candidates’ ability and understanding in verbal reasoning as well as evaluate their potential to execute basic administrative tasks such as planning and decision making. The test implemented is written in the form of objective and essay writing. The post where Aptitude Tests is conducted is the Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (Grade M48).
Rapid Test
Rapid Test conducted by the Examination Division is Stenotyping. The test is used to test the candidates’ skill in shorthand from a recorded tape then type it out in the given time. The post that requires Rapid Test is Administrative Assistant (Secretarial) Grade N9.
Psychological Test
Psychological Test is an effective instrument to measure candidates’ attitude and mental ability by predicting their efficiency to obtain knowledge relevant to their occupation and their success in implementing tasks. The Psychological Test is implemented to monitor the correlation and suitability of candidates to their occupation through their personality, fancies, attitude, intelligence, values and skills. Among scopes that are measured are psychological traits such as emotional stability, analytical and problem solving skills, human communication skills and leadership. This is a written test. The post where Aptitude Test is conducted is the Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (Grade M48).
Physical Test
Physical Test is implemented to ensure candidates appointed have the appropriate body size, is healthy and has an active and energetic physic. The test identifies candidates who are energetic, assertive and alert. Posts that requires Physical Test are Security Officer (Grade KP41 and KP27), Prison Enforcer (Grade KX41 and KX27), Enforcement Officer (Grade N41 and N27) and Investigation Officer (Grade KR41 and KR27). The types of test conducted are Body Measurement, Vision and Colour Recognition. For posts in the fire brigade, Active and Energetic Test will also be conducted.
